Grocery Store books

  Title: 3D Readers Sharks

2 Publisher Parragon Books

I laughed when I heard the grocery store books explanation and it made complete sense. We just got this book in acme 2 weeks ago! We are a family who loves all things sharks so my daughter saw this book and asked for it. It was literally 50 dollars and she was sold on the stickers and 3d glasses. The book did grasp her attention with he extras attached to the little book, but she was also pretty interested in learning some of the facts we read together. I would give this book a 3 out of 5. The reason for this rating is because of its shelf life. It was literally ripped within 2 days, by a six-year-old who does handle books with care. Also, the glasses were very poor quality. Even though there were some negatives the book was informative when it came to sharks which I thought was interesting.

Board Book

1) title of book: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

 2) author/illustrator: Bill Martin Jr. and Illustrated by John Archanbault

I love this book, personally. I love the rhyming and find myself getting excited while reading this book to my children to turn the page. Their reaction is Priceless to see the next rhyming part. This book is great too because it is not only teaching words, it is teaching numbers, and in ordinal order. This book is both cute and educational. It is also extremely colorful which helps grasp the attention of very young babies to older children. This book receives a 5 star from me!

Wordless Picture book

1) title of book, Good Dog Carl

 2) author/illustrator, Alexandra Day

3) This book was touched on a little bit in the lecture this week, but I know I had to choose it as soon as I read wordless picture book! This is one of my family’s favorite books. We may be a little biased because we have a Carl (Moose) ourselves. Seeing this book completely does tell the story of what this dog was doing. As a parent myself It does make you question a little bit where the mother was while the dog took care of the small baby alone, but then the next page makes you laugh all over again. The pictures in the story completely tells the story and the title itself explains what the dog was doing and why he is such a good dog. This book gets a five-star rating from me!

1) title of book, Mr Wuffles !

 2) author/illustrator, David Weisner

This is wordless story about a cat who does not want to play with regular cat things. They give him toys, snacks, etc. but all the cat is interested in is a tiny spaceship. Unfortunately the spaceship was not unoccupied at the time of playing. The alien's are in deep trouble from the cats roughness. I give this book a 5/5. I loved David Wiesner's books they are all colorful and funny! They all teach valuable lessons, words or not.

Mr. Wuffles!

Decodable book

Title: Green Eggs and Ham

Author: Dr Seuss.

I just love this book. It is one of the first books I remember being able to read on my own. I remember walking around my house saying Sam I am, Sam I am. I think this is a good book for being able to identify new words and a good starter book. This book is also easy to engage with he students with. I remember we read this book in school in first grade on Dr. Seuss birthday and our teacher brought in green eggs and ham and dressed like Dr. Seuss. These are memories that last forever. I give this book 5 stars. I just love Dr. Seuss for starters, so I give all of his books five stars, but for this book specifically it is how interested I found myself and now my children are in the book. Also, how easy it is for teachers to be able to engage with their students while reading.

  1. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom was always one of my favorite books as a kid. I loved the colors, the pictures and how you could almost sing along with it. I gave this book to my twin niece's 5 years ago when they were born and they gave it back to my a few months ago when my son was born. It is a great book to read and to pass down. A true classic!

  2. I love Good Dog Carl as an example of a wordless picture book for young children. The story is so delightful as we follow Carl as he spends an afternoon babysitting. (I personally always found the fish tank part a little disturbing.) I use this book in class as an example of how you can use a wordless picture book to teach oral language and storytelling.
